Dr. Muhammad Yunus, even while sitting in the seat of the nation’s highest authority, never sought glamour or grandeur. He did not try to distinguish himself by changing his attire or projecting an image of power. Rather, at times he appeared tired and contemplative—standing amidst the noise and narrowness of politics with a sense of quiet discomfort. It often felt as though he belonged to a different mindset, accustomed to a higher moral and intellectual ground.

Now, it seems as if he has found freedom. Relieved of burdens, he has returned to his own world—the world of thought, humanity, and creativity.

One day, a Bangladesh afflicted by inhumanity, corruption, and narrow-mindedness will surely remember that such a person once carried the responsibility of the nation on his shoulders. Perhaps we were not worthy of fully embracing him. For he is not merely an administrator; he is one of the world’s leading thinkers. The height of knowledge, humanity, and vision that he embodies is not easily comprehended by a society long deprived in its intellectual culture.

The saddest part is that many who take pride in calling themselves educated remain deprived of that deeper understanding. A degree does not automatically bring wisdom, and wisdom alone does not guarantee humanity. History, in its calm and impartial voice, will one day judge whom we failed to understand—and why.
